Thanks to one of our readers we got wind Broken Ranks, a highly interesting MMORPG soon to launch on most of our favourite devices, be it our iOS or Android smartphones, tablets and even desktops.
The game is developed by WHITEMOON, a polish development company with over 13 years of development experience as a studio, and promises to be quite an interesting release due to it’s mix of being an MMORPG with a simultaneous turn based combat system in which players set up their moves at the same time.
The combat system is what I found to be the most interesting as, from the videos and description, It reminds me of a cross between Baldur’s Gate and Frozen Synapse – two great games to be reminded off.
The graphics look extremely polished (pun not intended) and are a good blend of 2D and 3D assets that work extremely well together.
When will Broken Ranks launch on Android and iOS?
While the full game is going to launch on the 25th of January for Windows PC, the launch date for the android and iOS versions are unknown. From what I can see on their website, they held a big beta test for most of 2021 and testing for the mobile versions hasn’t begun yet so we might be waiting for quite a while.
I’ve reached out to the team and subscribed to their mailing list so I can keep everyone updated on the processes. It looks to be one of my most anticipated games for smartphones of 2022.

What are the tentative system requirements for Android and iOS?
According to their FAQ they already have the requirements for Android ready:
1GB RAM, minimum resolution of 1280×720, and a dual core processor. Our test devices with the lowest parameters that allow for a more or less smooth gameplay are Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 and Samsung Galaxy S5. The minimum screen size for comfortable gameplay is 4.3″. The bigger the screen, the better your experience.
As for iOS they mentioned they haven’t started testing yet. All they’re saying is that iPhones older than 6 won’t be supported (and with Apple probably dropping support for 6 and 6S this year, even those might not make the cut). As for tablets, expect iPad generation 6 and newer. They mentioned iPad gen 3 buuuut I’m not sure how accurate that is.
Can you play Broken Ranks on iOS/Android with Windows/Mac players?
It looks to be the case. A single account, shared across devices. Which means you can play on your pc and continue where you left off on your mobile device or tablet. Great news I say, and it’s exactly what I wanted from smartphone games. I covered this topic in our “Are mobile games real games” article:
When Smartphones started taking shape and being adopted, I envisioned a future where the device would compliment at home workstations. One where you’d have companion apps for all games. Where you could play an MMO RPG’s at home and do daily quests, read lore and work on the game’s meta while on the go.
Are mobile games real games?
Broken Ranks takes this a step further and pushes the entire game onto our mobile devices which is even better than I was expecting.
Can you Pre-Register to Play the game?
Head on over to Broken Rank’s website and you can register for an account to play the game. You should be able, once the iOS and Android version launches, to continue playing from your mobile device.
Closing thoughts
Like I mentioned before, I am extremely excited to try out the game on my devices. I’ll pre-register for an account and begin to familiarise myself with it and try to get into the mobile beta (when it happens).
As soon as it’s out, both me and our senior reviewer Rev will be all over it like a pack of wild dogs. Gaming on mobile phones in 2022 is looking great and we’re just 10 days into the new year.
